Several days after launch, the HTV-X1 cargo ship will rendezvous with the International Space Station for capture and berthing to the Earth-facing port of the Harmony module.
The cargo spacecraft, made by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, is expected to contain nearly 6,000 kilograms of pressurized and unpressurized cargo for the space station’s Expedition 73 crew.
Following berthing, HTV-X1 will remain at the ISS through the end of the year.
HTV-X is a successor cargo ship to the Japanese HTV spacecraft, which launched nine times between 2009 and 2020.
